【How long has it been since you last had a haircut?】

How long has it been since your last haircut in the UK? Three months? Six months? A year?

It's been ten months for me without a haircut! Getting a haircut in the UK can be quite pricey, but what often perplexes newcomers from Hong Kong is that the hairstyles they receive here may not match their expectations.

Recently, we invited two Hong Kong hairstylists to offer free haircuts to Hong Kong seniors. Many participants shared that not only are haircuts in the UK costly, but local hairstylists often struggle to deliver the desired hairstyle. Consequently, many opt to let their hair grow long. However, managing long hair can be quite bothersome, and it doesn't always provide the neat appearance they desire.

After careful consideration by the two Hong Kong hairstylists, participants were thrilled with their new hairstyles, which lifted their spirits.

The haircut event also served as a social gathering where participants shared the challenges of life in the UK, such as language barriers and the high fees for nearby ESOL English classes. While listening to their stories, the outreach coordinator at the event introduced them to the English classes offered by us and helped them find free ESOL English classes. What was even more surprising was that two of the participants, who were originally strangers, discovered that they were online friends, all thanks to this event.

Life as an immigrant is no walk in the park, and we sincerely hope that, in this turbulent world, no matter where Hongkongers find themselves, they can lend a helping hand to one another. The church is just a platform, and with a compassionate heart, you can also be the light that brightens someone else's day.
