《Six Years Ago—It’s Still Hard to Believe》

A few days ago, I was having a conversation with a local here. I mentioned how a colleague was chased and attacked with a knife while on duty. Curious, I asked how British police would handle such a situation. His answer was quite interesting: “You have to protect yourself first.” I replied, “After July 21, 2019, none of us trust the police anymore. That night, as a rally ended and people headed home, crowds of people in white shirts attacked citizens at Yuen Long MTR Station. Many were injured. Police officers were seen leaving Yuen Long with their backs to the scene as caught on video. That night, the Yuen Long police station closed its doors, and calling 999 yielded nothing. It took 39 minutes after the violence before the police arrived—by then, the fighting was over. The night was broadcast live: we all saw police and those in white talking amicably, patting each other on the shoulder. In the end, although over a hundred people in white were present, only a few were arrested. On the contrary, some legislators who tried to help at the scene were instead prosecuted and imprisoned.”

That local friend stood still on the street, listening to my sharing for over ten minutes. His expression and response both showed disbelief.

Yes, it’s been six years since then. It’s still hard for us to believe that such reversals of right and wrong have not been righted. The Hong Kong-CCP regime still refuses to acknowledge its cooperation with triads. The “721 Incident” (the attack by people in white at Yuen Long on July 21, as known to Hongkongers) is not just a scar for Hong Kong; such distortion of justice imprisoned the innocent.

“A false witness will not go unpunished, and whoever pours out lies will not escape.” (Proverbs 19:5) Scripture insists on the pursuit of justice and promises that evildoers will surely be judged. Six years later today, let us reflect, pray, and declare together:

1. For those in white who have not been legally held accountable, may the Lord demand justice for their sins; may those who attacked others be attacked equally, shed the same blood, and receive matching punishment.

2. As for Hong Kong government officials, the Chinese Communist regime, and the police who deliberately turned a blind eye to the 721 incident, they will by no means escape; every lie will be exposed. We pray the Lord will apprehend all who falsely testify and entrap others; and may they in turn suffer from similar lies.

3. Pray for those injured on 721 and for those imprisoned for doing right; may the Lord heal their shadowed memories, and grant release to those imprisoned. We have not forgotten, not until this case is finally redressed.

Yes, though our lives are now busy and different, the Lord still calls us to act justly (Micah 6:8). May the routines of life never erase our memory. May justice refine our daily lives.
